Supreme Court Rules on Use of Senate Maps

A referendum on the state Senate district maps drawn by the Citizens Redistricting Commission has qualified for the November 2012 ballot.

To avoid uncertainty about which maps should be used in the 2012 elections, the state Supreme Court has ruled that the Commission’s maps will be used.

 

Federal Action on District Maps

Court challenge dismissed: A legal challenge to the congressional maps in federal district court has been dismissed with finality.

New district maps precleared: The Citizens Redistricting Commission was informed on January 17 that the U.S. Attorney General does not object to the district maps for four California counties covered by Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. You can view the preclearance submission on the commission’s Web site.

General Fund activities

Support Election Day Registration in California

We support AB 1436 (Feuer), to allow eligible Californians to register to vote on Election Day and during the two weeks leading up to it. Sign our petition.

 

State League Recommendations on Propositions

The League of Women Voters of California recommends a yes vote on Proposition 28, term limit reform. To read more about the League's recommendations, look here.

 

Force special interests to DISCLOSE who really pays for political ads!

Join the League in supporting AB 1648 (Brownley), the California DISCLOSE Act. Keep up the pressure. The Appropriations Committee decision will be made in late May.  

 

Follow the Money

Millions of campaign $$$$$ are flowing everywhere in our elections. Tracking the money path can be challenging because the information is patchy and found in different places. The League of Women Voters can help you find out who is funding political campaigns and how much money is being spent. Read more
