Choices for Youth: A Public Education Campaign to Prevent Violence Against Youth

Choices for Youth: A Public Education Campaign to Prevent Violence Against Youth was launched at a press conference at the California State Capitol on May 24th, 2001.

Television Commercials

The campaign, organized by iecommunications, LLC, has produced two television ads that will be shown in Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Diego through June 15th. In one, the mother of a Santana High student reflects on that campus' recent shooting tragedy and wonders why more isn't being done to stop youth violence. The other features a young man who began using drugs and hanging out on the street but is now out of trouble and in a job-training program at "Jobs for a Future".

The ads are on view at on the campaign website, www.preventviolence.org. Videotapes of the two ads are available for showing at meetings and events; please contact i.e. communications, LLC at (415) 616-3930 or info@iecomm.org for a copy.

Polling

Results of a telephone survey conducted for the Campaign by Baldassare & Associates are available. The polls found that California voters are strong proponents of violence prevention programs for youth and want to see more state dollars earmarked for them. Nearly two-thirds of survey respondents approved of maintaining current state-funded violence prevention programs, and 80 percent supported spending more state money on local anti-violence efforts.

Website

The campaign website, www.PreventViolence.org, includes original research on what works, success stories, policy updates as well as resources and a calendar of events.
