The League of Women Voters of California has researched and discussed the subject of Juvenile Justice since 1995. The system is incredibly complex, affecting the lives of hundreds of thousands of children across the state.
Recent litigation, investigations by experts, and legislation are forcing drastic changes at the state’s secure youth facilities. See “Changes at California’s Division of Juvenile Justice,” based on LWVC research.
The League has published two study kits, approved a position statement, and published a special edition of the California Voter.
Read a notice about A Public Education Campaign to Prevent Violence Against Youth. Proposition 21, The Juvenile Crime Initiative, was on the March 2000 ballot. See the nonpartisan reports by the Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO): |
