JOIN THE LEAGUE

About Us

Founded in 1920, the League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League works at the local, regional, state and national levels, paralleling the levels of government. Members may join through any level of the League.

The organization's name, like its mission, derives from the proud legacy of the women's suffrage movement. Today's members are women and men.

Full voting membership is open to all citizens of voting age. Associate membership is open to young people and noncitizens.

• You can develop additional skills in networking, communication, and leadership.
• You will receive periodic League publications and get access to our "members only" Web site. (If you are a member now, send an email message to our State Office at lwvc@lwvc.org with your name and name of your League and ask how to access the "members only" Web site.)

Help us Make Democracy Work

The League never supports or opposes any political party or candidate. We advocate only on issues that members have studied and come to consensus on. In an era of proliferating and powerful special interests, the League's advocacy in the public interest is increasingly recognized as an essential voice of democracy.

Remember -- even if you have limited time for personal participation, your membership will strengthen the voice of the public in major policy decisions at all levels of government.
