League of Women Voters of California Hires First Executive Director

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 14 (AScribe Newswire) -- Jill Kaiser Newcom became the League of Women Voters of California's first executive director on October 1.

Newcom comes to the League with more than seven years of experience in nonprofit management and a Masters of Science in Public Administration & Public Policy.

About Newcom's hiring, Jacqueline Jacobberger, League of Women Voters of California President, said "We were impressed with Jill's enthusiasm, her positive attitude, and her vision for what we can accomplish together. Our state League, although almost 50 years old, has never had an executive director. We've hired Newcom in that capacity because we think she'll help us bring the League's impressive array of voter education and citizen engagement activities to more Californians."

Newcom recently returned to Sacramento after a year of traveling with her husband through South America. Prior to her sabbatical, she was executive director of the Arts & Business Council of Sacramento, an affiliate of the Metro Chamber. Newcom is a Leadership Sacramento alumna and a graduate of the Nonprofit Resource Center's executive director training program. She arrived in Sacramento as a State of California Executive Fellow in 1997. Because of her dedication to a career in public service, Newcom won a Harry S. Truman Scholarship in 1993. She is also a Thomas J. Watson Fellow.

Newcom received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy and Philosophy from Tulane University. She completed her graduate studies at the London School of Economics & Political Science.
