NEW LWVC INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS COMMITTEEAt the recent LWVC State Convention, our first International Relations (IR) Committee was inaugurated at a late evening caucus. Fifteen people attended, all of whom are on the Internet or soon will be. A number of other people throughout the state had previously expressed an interest by e-mail or phone, but could not attend the convention. It was unanimously agreed by those who did attend (the others will be polled this summer) that we should do a study of the LWVUS International Relations positions as set forth in "Impact on Issues", the 1998-2000 edition (these positions are also on the LWVUS website). Conclusions arrived at by consensus would be reported to the LWVC by the Steering Committee and soon thereafter, we hope, passed along to the LWVUS for their information and possible action. Considerable feeling was expressed that some of the five positions should be updated. It was also thought desirable to find out from the members of the Leagues represented at the caucus how many of their members might be interested in setting up IR groups in those Leagues. Such a group was set up in the Marin County League in 1979,using the Great Decisions book as a focus, and has held monthly meetings ever since. Meetings have been very well attended. If you have questions about any of this activity, please contact me. --Doris Sutter, LWVC IR Chair, LWV Marin County, jdasutter@sprintmail.com
