Grants For Local League Projects

By Diane Park, Development Manager

Community or regional foundations are a wonderful source of funding for League education programs, either local programs or funding needed to implement state/national issues for emphasis. If you do not have one in your city, there will usually be a foundation nearby that serves a regional population. Some examples of projects eligible for foundation support are: workshops for community education on public policy issues; a published guide to your city and/or county; the National Parent/ Student Mock Election Project, Year 2000; special project funding around the state issue(s) for emphasis. The list is only limited by your League's imagination and time!

The state League would like to know when your League applies to a community foundation. Please send us the name of the foundation, the amount of money and the type of project you are seeking. In this way we can make sure we are not applying to the same foundation for a similar project. We hope you will call our State Office if you need assistance in preparing a proposal.

You can usually find foundation guidelines using the internet, or simply by calling and asking how to obtain them. If you have trouble locating a community foundation near you, please call our State Office and ask for Development Manager Diane Park. I will be glad to assist you. The number is (916) 442-3236, or use our toll free number, and I will call you back. It is 888-222 8733; E-mail address: DRileyPark@compuserve.com.
