President's Message
With a renewed emphasis on an informed electorate and an opportunity to influence policy decisions quickly, we need more of us to accomplish these goals. With that in mind, the state League board is providing an incentive program, "Building the Future". This program gives every local League an opportunity to plan programming most appropriate to the local communities you serve while being rewarded for your heightened visibility and membership growth with monetary awards. Call your local League president to be sure your League is participating, and watch your own local Voter for more details about this new program. The work we accomplished at the state convention made our priorities for the coming two years clear. We will have an exciting new study on election systems, a broad-based outreach program to introduce communities to sustainability and the individual's role in assuring a continuing high quality of life for all Californians, and a renewed focus on education in both our action and our citizen education efforts. We will seek a membership that reflects our communities more closely, learn how best to work with others seeking change, and document our successes. We will take action on a host of issues-both as individuals and through our statewide lobbying efforts. We have an exciting time ahead as we move into the new millennium. We are becoming an ever more vibrant, visible, involved organization that is building the future. With all we are accomplishing, I know you understand why I am eager to represent you. As a member of League of Womens Voters, YOU are doing work that makes us proud.

uch of this Voter recaps for you the biennial convention of our League--a convention that was a wonderful experience for those who could attend. I trust you will get some of the flavor, as well as the content, of our successful convention through your reading today. However, I hope you get much more than a recap, for we want to look forward, too. Included here are some ideas for the coming two years.
